I always wonder if I’d be more productive if I wasn’t working… I certainly have time to pursue my interests/hobbies more, but not all of those are productive… and I might just end up sleeping more. I’ve never really reached a conclusion on it!
I think the crux is probably how we define work. When it comes to a definition I tend to marvel at Confucius’ wisdom: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”. Making a living by dedicating your time and energy to something you are passionate about is probably the ideal conception, but few people are fortunate and/or courageous enough to do so.
Idleness might feel pretty unproductive and uninspired, but that’s probably how we recharge or simply put ourselves in stand-by mode… 🙂
